On 11 November 2025, the General Meeting of the National Committee of Ukraine for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics was held at the S.P. Timoshenko Institute of Mechanics of the NAS of Ukraine. The meeting took place in a hybrid, in-person and online format and was associated with World Science Day.
At the opening of the meeting, the Committee comprised 186 researchers representing 18 research institutions, 24 higher-education institutions, and 2 research-and-production enterprises in Ukraine. These figures are retained as a historical snapshot as of 11 November 2025.
Review of activities in 2023–2025
Chair of the Committee, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Viacheslav Bogdanov, presented a report on the work of the Presidium during the reporting period. The General Meeting assessed the Committee’s work as satisfactory.
Priorities discussed for further work included:
- development of scientific and technical programmes for strategic sectors, including transport, energy, and defence, in the context of reconstruction and strengthening national defence capability;
- integration of artificial-intelligence technologies into mechanics, development of digital twins of mechanical systems, and participation in relevant European initiatives;
- preparation of proposals aimed at strengthening the position of mechanics within Ukrainian higher education.
Main decisions and initiatives
- The meeting supported the establishment of a new English-language scientific journal, Journal of Mechanics and Engineering Sciences, with the first issue planned for 2026.
- The Presidium was tasked with preparing an appeal to the Government of Ukraine concerning the urgent organization and financing of major repairs to the E.O. Paton Bridge because of its technical condition.
- A biobibliographical reference work marking the 150th anniversary of Academician Oleksandr Dynnyk was presented, and preparation of a similar publication for the 2028 anniversary of Stepan Timoshenko was supported.
Membership and Presidium decisions
Participants observed a minute of silence in memory of 12 Committee members who had died during the period between General Meetings.
Representatives of sectoral science, Oleh Korostelov and Oleksandr Shymanovskyi, were added to the Presidium.
Following the vote, 35 new members were elected to the National Committee, representing Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Odesa, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Rivne, and Uzhhorod.
