The technical condition of the E.O. Paton Bridge in Kyiv became a distinct area of expert activity for the National Committee of Ukraine for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.
At the General Meeting on 11 November 2025, the Committee’s Presidium was instructed to prepare an appeal to the Government of Ukraine concerning the urgent organization and financing of major bridge repairs. In early 2026 this work entered the public arena: Committee Chair Academician Viacheslav Bogdanov reported on an official appeal to the Government and on assessments by specialists from the Committee and the V.M. Shymanovskyi Ukrainian Institute of Steel Construction.
Public expert assessments drew attention to extensive corrosion damage in steel elements and to the risk of further, increasingly unpredictable deterioration of the structure. The Committee emphasized the need to move from prolonged discussion to the organization of major repairs at the national level.
